Dear American Energy Supporter,
Since President Obama took office, he has been hostile to energy
production both in the United States and Canada. The President
halted oil and gas leasing in Utah,
stopped research and development leases for oil shale,
and postponed plans to open new areas for offshore energy
production.
In addition to his attacks on domestically produced energy, the
President’s budget included a cap and trade tax
on oil, coal, and natural gas. Besides the other $1 trillion in new
taxes in the President’s budget,
the cap and trade tax on its own would increase taxes by $1.3
trillion to $1.9 trillion from 2012 to
2019. The cap and trade tax would be the largest tax increase in
American (and probably world) history. This would harm the economy
and American job prospects.
President Obama's cap and trade tax would especially harm oil
imports from Canada. This is a particularly troubling development.
Canada is our largest trading partner. We import more natural gas,
refined gasoline, and oil from Canada than any other nation in the
world. Nearly 100 percent of Canada’s energy exports go to the
United States, but President Obama’s hostility toward these
reliable, secure energy resources is making the Canadians
look to sell their oil to China and the rest of Asia instead of the
United States.
President Obama must halt his attacks on these abundant and reliable
sources of energy.
