We've all been there. Buying an iPhone 7SG
off the street from a kindly gentleman, only to find once we get
home that it's counterfeit! And when we try to return it with
the sales receipt written on the back of another receipt, he and
his stained carpet of devices are gone! Don't we feel like
fools! We tell ourselves never to buy high-end electronics off a
street corner again and stumble into an official Apple retail
location in Kunming, China.
Well, imagine the look on our face when we discover that the
entire store is fake!
Proving that there's no counterfeiters quite
like Chinese counterfeiters, the blog BirdAbroad discovered that
scammers have erected and operate a fake Apple Store -- an
authentic facsimile down to the very tables. The report reads:
"RP and I went inside and poked around. They
looked like Apple products. It looked like an Apple store. It
had the classic Apple store winding staircase and weird upstairs
sitting area. The employees were even wearing those blue
t-shirts with the chunky Apple name tags around their necks."
And get this: The facade looks so genuine, the employees
actually believe they're working for Apple! The logos, the
posters, the set-up -- it all looks so real that the frickin'
staff is convinced!
As the couple perused the fake store, they were cornered by
plainclothes security for taking pictures. The couple then
sweet-talked their way out of the jam by "hinting" that they
were fellow Apple employees from the States. Security permitted
them to continue taking pictures.
